A £40m fine, spread over five years

“Ofwat fines & penalties (annualised recent trend): £8m a year — '£40m fine in 2024 ÷ 5 years'”

misleading Retired in version 2.0.0, 2 October 2026.

Where it appeared: Model v1, 'The Value Add'; Briefing paper, section 3 (wording).

Why it failed

The 2024 case ended with a nominal penalty of £1 and a £39.4m redress package (bill reductions and money the company absorbed). It was not a £40m fine, and dividing it by five to forecast future fines had no basis.

Evidence

What the site says now
